Swanky Slouchy

Swanky Slouchy Hat

So my FAVE yarn company – Red Heart – just sent me some new yarns that haven’t even hit the market yet, and the one with my favorite name is “Red Heart Boutique Swanky.”  So I naturally had to immediately make something with it!

It’s has sequins on it, and as I have always secretly thought that my brain must also have sequins on it, a hat seemed a natural!  So I whipped up my “Swanky Slouchy” hat so that my head can look on the outside they way I know it must look on the inside!  All sparkly, fluffy and – well – swanky!

Here is how I made it.

Supplies needed:

Size “H” 5.0 mm crochet hook
1 skein of RED HEART BOUTIQUE SWANKY (Acrylic/Polyester/Sequin Yarn) 202 yards

(Please keep in mind that I crochet extremely tightly, so if you crochet loosely you might have to adjust the number of stitches)

To Start: Chain 4, sl st to form ring

Round 1: ch 3, 13 dc into ring, sl st together. (Place marker at the beginning of round) (15)

Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, sl st together, (Move Marker) (30)

Round 3: ch 2, , dc into same st, dc in next st * (2 dc in next st, dc in next st) repeat from * until you reach marker, sl st together (44)

Round 4: ch 2, dc in next st,* 2 dc in next 2 sts, dc in next st), repeat from * until you reach marker, sl st together (65)

Round 5: ch 2, dc into same st, dc in next 3 sts * (2 dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts) repeat from *, move marker, sl st together (82)

Round 6: sl st into back loop of same st. Ch 2, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, * (dc in next 10 sts, 2 dc in next st), repeat from * dc in the last sts. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. (90)

Rounds 7 – 12 Chain 2, dc all the way around. For each round remember to move the marker up. During this portion of the hat you might have to adjust how many rows you do. If you want the hat slouchier, then add 2 – 4 more rows.

Round 13-16: ch 1 sc in each st around, join w/sl st to the top of chain. Leave a six inch tail and weave in the ends.

Please keep in mind you might have to cut 1 or 2 sequins off the yarn so you can weave in the ends.

  1. Fabulous Janice!
This hat would be perfect for the silent auction at Soroptimist of Glendale’s annual “Bras for a Cause” Fundraiser on Saturday, April 5 (http://www.soroptimistglendale.org/bras-cause).
Would you be willing to crochet and donate a Slouchy Hat for this fundraiser?
“Bras for a Cause” is always an exciting and unusual party, highlighted by a gallery of wildly decorated bras. A silent auction, dinner, and a live auction are also part of the fun. All proceeds are donated to Glendale’s 3 hospitals for breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
I’m crocheting beaded jewelry to donate to this event. The necklace and bracelet will be in colors that coordinate with your Slouchy Hat. We could combine them into an ensemble for the silent auction. What do you think?

    • Dear Evelyn, I would be honored to donate to your silent auction. I’ll start making another “Swanky Slouchy” hat. I also have purple and navy blue. Do you want me to make a purple one? Somehow I have a feeling you’ll be making something purple.
      Janice 🙂
